Model annotated to demonstrate programmatic elements.

Pushing the wall line back from the atrium space and exposing circulation creates a busier, more lively and inviting atmosphere.

Use of balsa wood enabled the exploration of potential furnishings - lighter, more natural textures brought life to the space. An attractive, habitable space was important for social interaction.

Using acetate as a modelling substitute for glass different roofs heights and forms (a simple flat glazed roof and a clerestory roof) were tested. Raising the height of the glazed roof above that of the proposed three storey building was found to improve the quality of lighting within the space.

Puncturing holes in the walls of the Essoldo frames moments of interaction taking place in the Essoldo; exposing activities taking place inside the music venue creates a busier feeling, evoking a sense of excitement and drama to a visitor.
