CAMDEN ROUNDHOUSE

The Camden Roundhouse is a performing arts and concert venue situated at the Grade II listed former railway engine shed in Chalk FarmLondon, England.

Alongside its role as an arts venue, the Roundhouse is also a registered charity and runs a creative programme for 11-25s through the Roundhouse Trust.

In 2015/16, over 55% of all the young people who benefitted from the Roundhouse trust were those experiencing some form of personal, social or economic disadvantage. However, this does not limited the inclusivity of the trust, which provides free use to any young people who wish to benefit from it.

The re-development of the Camden Roundhouse from a former railway engine shed into a thriving music and arts hub capitalised on the capacity of the existing building to spatially support an alternative programme. Through a similar addition of complimentary amenities, could Stretford Essoldo - another Grade II listed building - also support a similar change in programme?

Camden Roundhouse's programme functions within both capitalist and post-capitalist frameworks; operating as a music venue / private hire function space provides a significant income stream that when coupled with Arts Council funding allows the upkeep of the Roundhouse Trust Charity. The music venue also provides a space to stage events for the programme's partnerships.
